Every month, I publish a report of the business & investment income I received during the previous month. I publish these reports to show you what you can expect with an online business & unconventional investments, and I also publish them to keep the motivation to work hard & to grow this number month after month.
In every report, you will find out the details about all the business income I received during the month, all the business expenses, and also all the income I received from investments during the month.
What Happened in March
March was again really busy - both with work and travels. I started the month by launching a new video course on my main online business, Open Home Automation. I took a different approach for this course, by making a pre-launch to a limited amount of people before the content is even created. This will allow me not only to validate the idea, but also to get feedback from those students as I am building the course. Once the course content is actually created, I'll then launch it again to a larger audience. If that works, I definitely plan to use this strategy for all my courses as it's a good solution for me & for my students.
In March, I also launched PureSocial, my tool that I was already using internally for our social media automation. If you want to compare it to other tools, think about MeetEdgar on steroids - not only does the tool automate your social media presence, but it also include Facebook Messenger automation, like the possibility to directly reach your audience via Facebook Messenger or to create Messenger bots. If you are interested by giving it a try, simply go to the PureSocial page.
I also had the chance to travel to the Traffic & Conversion summit in San Diego, and this conference was just mind blowing! Compared to many conferences I attended in the past that were mainly inspirational, this one was packed with content I can directly use in my online business. I also had the chance to meet amazing people there, for example Pat Flynn before one of this talks:
I took pages of notes, and I am now using that as a 'battle plan' for the coming month. I will also do a lot of writing about what I learned at this conference, so you can learn too about it. It was actually so good that I already signed up for the conference next year, and also for the other conference organised by Digital Marketer that will happen in September, Content & Commerce.
On the investing side, nothing really new this month as I reinvested in several positions that I already owned. On the dividend investing side, I reinvested in stocks I already owned like Qualcomm. I also reinforced my existing investment in the Peer-to-Peer platform Mintos.
Also note that starting this month I will be counting the revenue from my affiliate websites as business income and not anymore as investment income. I am doing this as I am taking a more active role on those sites, so it didn't make sense anymore to count those as pure passive investments. However, I'll of course still show the value of those sites in my total net worth.
Below is all the income I received from my online business during the past month:
- Amazon Kindle eBooks: 266 €
- eBooks & video courses: 4,071 €
- Books royalties: 3,560 €
- Amazon affiliate websites: 1,587 €
Gross business income in March 2017: 9,484 €
Below is all the business related expenses I had during the past month:
- Team expenses on UpWork: 30 €
- Hosting: 83 €
- Facebook Ads: 171 €
- Sendgrid: 9 €
Business expenses in March 2017: 293 €
Net business income in March 2017: 9,191 €
Below is all the income I received from investments during the past month. For some investments, this is the expected monthly revenue as some investments only pay once a quarter or once a year:
- Dividend growth stocks: 434 €
- Peer-to-Peer lending: 529 €
- Real estate: 173 €
Investment income in March 2017: 1,136 €
Comment About the Report
Let’s now make the total and add my business & investment revenues:
Total income for March 2017: 10,327 € (+44%)
I am very happy to announce that it is my first 5 figures month for my total income! This is definitely motivating for me and I'll definitely keep pushing in the future to grow this number, and of course share with you all the strategies that I'll implement to grow that number :)
In April, I also have a lot planned, including releasing more of the applications that I am currently using for my online business and make them available to everyone as open-source code & also as SaaS applications. This will include this month my shopping cart application PureCart, and also my course management system that I am using to provide video courses to students for all my online businesses. If you are already interested in trying those out, let me know!
On the investing side, I'll definitely push more into the real estate investing side as this is what is currently lacking in my portfolio.
Talk to you soon, and thanks again to everyone for the support!
